Nick and Jessica had a beautiful and memorable Williamsburg wedding at Ford’s Colony. If I had to pick my favorite season for weddings it would have to be fall. For most people their reason would be the leaves and the cool weather, and while those are nice things, my reason is the sunsets. The colors that appear in the sky during fall sunsets are a beautiful range or oranges, purples, and blues. Unlike the summer sunsets, these are short and sweet so you have to be quick to observe them.
It was such a pleasure to have been able to capture Nick and Jessica’s wedding day and have the opportunity to capture a few moments against a stunning fall sunset. The day started with myself and second shooter Gerry meeting up with the happy bride and her family decorating the reception hall. It was a rustic, warm, and elegant with deep hues of purple, red, and soft white.
There were many personal details incorporated throughout the day. Once the bride and groom were dressed to the nines we arranged for their ‘first look’. This is when the bride and groom get to have a few moments to themselves before walking down the aisle. This is a little less traditional but it reserves a moment for them to be raw, emotional, and to truly soak in the gravity of the day in private. I love the moments that occur during the first look as they are some of the most beautiful of the whole day. This one was no exception.
Nick’s Marine colleagues presented the newly married couple to the reception with a traditional saber arch and then broke into the harlem shake – in full dress uniforms! It set the mood for the remainder of the evening and let everyone know that this was a party – a celebration of commitment and a symbolic toast to a bright future filled with laughter.
The next part of the night was a true adventure. Lighting the floating paper lanterns was a lesson in fire safety! The steady crosswinds kept these beauties from being predictable but they were still a sight to see. The representation of loved one’s well wishes floating off into the heavens makes for a very special experience.
These two are vibrant souls. They are both so raw with each other and it was really refreshing to see two people be human. Their wedding day wrapped with them surrounded by friends and family sending them off with sparklers and words of love and encouragement. Congratulations you two!
